Chinese New Year - The Year of the Dog

We have had great fun exploring the Chinese New Year festival and celebrations.   The children loved hearing the story of how the years were named and were interested to find out which animal represented the year they were born. We listened to Chinese music and responded by making up our own musical compositions and dances.

We spent time in the creative area making masks and puppets and even tried writing Chinese numbers. The children think they look like pictures. "That looks like a window with a pair of curtains."

Some of the children love Chinese food and have tasted many types of rice, noodles and sauces. Others however, tried foods for the very first time and were honest about whether they liked or disliked them. It was great to see children moving out of their comfort zone. We had a great celebration
