During our topic sessions we have explored the history of Washington. We have looked at the coal mining industry and created our own mining banners, we have wrote diary entries from a child miner and researched mining disasters in Washington.
We had a fantastic time at the F-Pit, we looked at the old engine, learnt about the dangers in the mine and how to prevent accidents and we sang mining songs. Keith also visisted our class so we could learn more about Washington's history. We created our own song about being down the mine.
We have learnt about the human lifecycle and what happens to our bodies as we age. We used an iPad app to see how we would look when we are 80 years old.
We have compared various every day objects and looked at they have changed over the last 100 years. We also looked at how Washington has changed by studying old and new maps.
Have look at what we have been up to...
Here are some photographs of our trip to the F-Pit
When we were there, we sang songs about being down the mine with Keith and we even made up our own song. Take a listen.
Take a look at our Age App pictures.
We explored the different uses of coal by trying some coal tar soap.
