Welcome to Year 3

In Year Three there are 28 of us, our teacher has been Mrs Johnson and Mrs Fletcher is our teaching assistant and is a great help to our class. We have also had Miss Gregson in our class for 5 weeks just after Christmas. From Easter, Mr Peeke will be our teacher as Mrs Johnson has left to have her baby. We wonder what it will be? We are looking forward to the Summer term with Mr Peeke.

We have had lots of fun so far this year. In Autumn term we looked at the Romans and Celts. We loved the topic and we even had a visit from Maximus, a Roman Centurion. He was quite scary! We had a great time and trained to be Roman soldiers.

In February we completed an Investigating Pattern art topic and we went to the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle for the day. We took part in a printmaking workshop and then had a look around the gallery. It was our first visit to the art gallery, we had mixed reactions to the visit. Some of us thought it was boring, while others quite liked it.

We have been very sporty during Spring term. We have had a tennis and gymnastic coach during our PE sessions with Mrs Lawton. Some of the class have taken part in tennis and gymnastic competitions, we had great fun and loved competing against other schools.  Mrs Dimmick has been taking us for our other PE session and we were training for the Inter- Deanery Skipping competition. On top of our PE skipping sessions, we practised skipping during every playtime. Our hard work paid off and we came first in the competition after a tie break. We won the 'keep the kettle boiling' event against Our Lady Queen of Peace to become overall winners with 791 points!! We were delighted and excited with the win. It was great coming back to school with the winning trophy.

Skipping Competition

We are really looking forward to the Summer term with Mr Peeke, we are going to investigate our local area in Geography, look at The Vikings in History and we will have to practise our Athletic skills in time for Sports Day.

In English we will be reading Roald Dahl's 'Danny, Champion of the World' so that we can learn how to write our own adventure stories.  In RE we will be spending the 5 weeks up to half term looking at the events and meanings of Pentecost before moving on to study the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Hopefully we will have another visit somewhere and Mrs Johnson will come and see us with her new baby!
